Former New York Congressman Major Owens Announces Support for Barack Obama
Chicago, IL- Former
New York Congressman Major Owens announced his support for Senator
Barack Obama today, citing Obama’s commitment to ending the war
in Iraq, preventing history from repeating itself in Iran, and his
ability to bring change that people can believe in.
“Barack
Obama is the candidate who I feel has the leadership, the sound
judgment and the will to change this country,” said Congressman
Major Owens. “Obama stands for the concerns of the masses in
the black community who have been let down by the broken promises of
past leadership. Our leadership on both sides of the aisle has
continued to fail us by supporting the war in Iraq and by standing by
while poverty, disparities in our healthcare system and lack of
affordable education opportunities for young people weaken our
communities. It is time to shake loose from the past and
Senator Obama’s record shows that he will deliver on his
promise to stand up for us in the White House.”
“I
am proud to have the support of my friend Major Owens. Together we
will stand up for the thousands of men and women in New York and
across the country who have never had a voice in the White
House,” said Senator Barack Obama. “Owens’
continuing commitment to the overwhelming educational needs in the
black community and his belief that every person can play a key role
in changing this country make him a valuable asset to this campaign.”
