Note to College Students: Before you register immediately in your state of residence, consider where your vote will do the most good; the state you lived in, or the state you go to school in.  It's natural to register in the state you came from, but some states provide a local voting opportunity for students.  Try to pick a battleground state.

Note to anybody that uses a nationwide form to register, or registers new this year: Your voting location may ask you for proof that you reside in the location that you are voting at. If you are new at a location and your photo ID has the old address, you'll need some evidence that you live in the new place like a bill sent to the new address.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR MICHIGAN:  The following is copied and pasted from an email I just received;
Hello all, as the count down approaches!!!!!!!!!!

Please, please, please advise everyone you know that they absolutely can not go to the polls wearing any Obama shirts, pins or hats, it is against the law and will be grounds to have the polling officials to turn you away.  That is considered campaigning and no one can campaign within so many feet of the polls.  They are banking on us being excited and not being aware of this long standing law that you can bet will be enforced this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are also hoping that if you are turned away you will not go home and change your clothes.  Please just don't wear Obama gear of any sorts to the polls!! please share this information.  Oh and for those of you who were already aware... ...this was not meant to insult your intelligence.  Just trying to cover all grounds.

This message comes courtesy of Barb Miller, Michelle Beard, Sireece Martin, and Jeffery whom are the email chain that got the message to me.  As to the validity of the claim, I felt it was safe to believe it on it's face because it is not an unreasonable sounding law.  If you have evidence that would prove or disprove this, I would be glad to hear about it.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR PENNSYLVANIA:  The following is copied and pasted from an email I just received;
It looks like the controversy actually started in Pennsylvania.  There is a law that does not permit "passive electioneering" at the polls.  What constitutes "passive" has been left up to the counties' interpretations, and it's usually applied to distribution of literature, hanging signs or openly speaking to voters about a specific candidate within a certain distance from the poll.  There have been counties in the past that have gone as far as asking people to turn tee shirts inside out before they could vote.  Our governor asked the counties to soften their stance, but it looks like there may be some issues at the polls if the counties wish to enforce the law.

The law has not been typically applied to clothing in Philadelphia, but you never know.  In any case, if you want to show your support on election day, wear something you can easily remove before you go in to the polls.  The law to prevent you from voting if you're wearing candidate specific paraphernalia could be enforced.  The lines will be long.  You don't want to give some election staffers an excuse for you to go to the back of the line.  (Sounds a little like back of the bus).
